The Club
Spanish Wells Club was formed and built in 1970 by Mr. John McIntosh inside of Spanish Wells Plantation, a residential community. The clubhouse sits beside Battery Holbrook, a Civil War era battery type fort that Confederate forces used to protect the plantation's excellent landing.
The golf course, originally designed by George Cobb, opened in 1975 and meanders between many of the majestic Live Oak trees commonly found in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The course was completely renovated in 2005 by local golf course architect Clyde Johnston.
Spanish Wells was named for the freshwater wells on the property that were frequented by the Spanish fleets in the 13th century when they were exploring the area. The wells still exist today.
