A message from the board
Dear Members,
As we continue making progress on our Clubhouse renovations, we want to keep the Membership informed about our current plans and what to expect in the near future.
While the renovation project remains underway, progress has been slower than anticipated. This is due to several factors. One being a significant increase in our insurance costing us approximately $40,000.00 more than last year, stemming from a recent event, which has prompted us to explore more cost-efficient solutions. In addition, coordinating with our architect has been challenging, as he has been tied up with several other active projects, limiting our ability to move forward at our originally intended pace.
That said, we’re pleased to share that the new walk-in freezer and refrigerator, full HVAC system, and Proshop have been successfully renovated. Our next step is to inspect our facilities. Once the inspection has concluded, our goal is to complete the kitchen renovation as soon as feasible, featuring updated equipment, a more efficient layout, and full compliance with current codes. Once the kitchen is complete, we will shift focus to the Calibogue Room, with plans to start and finish that phase shortly thereafter.
We’re also excited to announce that our architect (Rob from Island Restaurant Equipment and Design) has officially begun work on our project after recently completing his latest project at Berkeley Hall. Despite juggling three current projects in Florida, he was generous enough to fit us into his schedule. Many of you may be familiar with one of his local designs—Joelle, a Bluffton restaurant recognized for its outstanding atmosphere and thoughtful layout.
We understand these delays can be frustrating, but they are necessary to manage costs responsibly and to deliver the level of quality our Membership deserves. We truly appreciate your continued patience and support as we move forward.

We are pleased and excited to share with our members that we have officially have 3 professionally lined pickleball courts for your enjoyment. Since successfully launching our program last September and seeing the momentum gained in participation, it has been a goal of ours to have beautiful courts for everyone to learn and play on. We want to continue to see this grow and offer more to our wonderful membership. We value each and every one of you and strive to offer more and more activities that the whole family can enjoy, that at the end of the day, make Spanish Wells Club the place to be. Be on the lookout for other great additions to our racquet sports facility in the coming weeks and months.

The course greens are in great shape and are becoming more green as we get closer to summer. We completed spraying pre-emergent, which prevents summer weeds from sprouting and overtaking the course.

From the Superintendent
The course greens are in great shape and are becoming more green as we get closer to summer. We completed spraying pre-emergent, which prevents summer weeds from sprouting and overtaking the course.
As a friendly reminder, we ask that everyone please repair divots and remain on cart paths around the T’s and greens.
Thank you,
Gregg Baxter

Coach Glenn’s tip of the month:
How to improve your game instantly
Add a step, a split step. A split step occurs after you hit the ball and prior to hitting a ball when the opponent hits the ball from the other side of Court. Make sure it's on your toes if you split step and land on your heels, it didn't do anything for you if you're up on your toes , it allows you to move left right and back and forward more quickly and it gets physically mentally stimulated to address the point.

Coach Hannah's helpful tips:
Remember that YOU are in control of how you play, not your opponent. Play the ball. Be free in your head. Enjoy the game.
Coach Glenn’s tip of the month: Eyes on the ball, utilize your resources and don’t abandon the help. Utilize your resources by using your left and right hand to help rotate the shoulders and bring the racket back in unison together. Don’t let go of both hands until you make a full shoulder rotation back so as not to abandon the help. Every inch you rotate the shoulders back and then forward you can generate up to six more miles an hour per inch of rotation and it also gives you three more inches of distance and travel through the ball. If you let go early, this process falls short of its potential.
Youth Summer Clinics
Tiny Tots and Orange ball will be every Monday and Wednesday and Green ball and Yellow ball will be every Tuesday and Thursday! Times are listed below! Clinics start on Monday June 3rd and end Thursday August 8th!
Tiny Tots: Monday and Wednesday, 2:30-3:00, ages 3-5

Orange ball: Monday and Wednesday, 3:00-4:00, ages 6-8

Cost will be $22 for members and $26 for non-members
Green ball: Tuesday and Thursday, 2:30-3:30, ages 8-10
In this group, we will continue to develop all mentioned above and learn to keep the ball going in a consistent rally as well as learn match play.
Cost will be $22 for members and $26 for non-members
Yellow ball: Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30-4:30, ages 10-12
In this group, we will continue to develop strokes, rally, match play, strategy, tactics, etc.
Cost will be $22 for members and $26 for non-members
Please note that we have a very soft emphasis on the ages listed with each ball. The group they will participate in will also be based upon ability and skill level. We highly encourage you to schedule a private lesson or 2 with us so that we can help you to make the decision as to which group will be best for your child. These groups are designed to be great fun all while learning to play a sport that is for a lifetime!
Please email Coach Hannah if you have any questions at tenniswithhannah@gmail.com and RSVP on Clubster if you would like for your child(ren) to participate!

From the Chef
We’d like to send a big thank you from our culinary team to everyone that showed up to our successful Friday night socials over the last month. Our shrimp and grits and wing nights were both the busiest we’ve ever had! We’re also looking forward to spring beers! Come by to try our Savannah River Brewing wolf dog witbeer and Legal Remedy Lawdog Lager. They both go great with the two greatest golf tournaments of the year.
